Day-by-Day Itinerary
- 1
Bangkok
Arrival in Bangkok, Thailand's capital. Transfer from Suvarnabhumi Airport to the hotel; rooms are available from 2:00 PM. Rest of the day free to relax.
- 2
Bangkok
Drive along the city's main avenues to vibrant Chinatown and visit Wat Traimit, home to an imposing 5-ton solid-gold Buddha hidden for centuries under plaster. Continue to Wat Pho and its 46-meter Reclining Buddha, whose feet display 108 virtuous acts of Buddhism, then the majestic Grand Palace, former royal residence, with Wat Phra Kaew — Thailand's most revered temple and home of the Emerald Buddha. On the way back, stop at a state gemstone workshop.
- 3
Bangkok – Railway Market – Floating Market
Drive to Mae Klong to visit its remarkable market set on active train tracks — when the timing coincides, watch vendors sweep their stalls back as the train rolls through. Continue to the Damnoen Saduak floating market, Thailand's most iconic, reached by motorboat along the canals, with free time to explore its stalls and atmosphere. Return to Bangkok.
- 4
Bangkok – Chiang Rai
Transfer to the airport for the flight to Chiang Rai (flight not included). In the north, visit the Golden Triangle — the border region of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar once famed for the opium trade — with the Opium Museum and panoramic views over the Mekong River. Lunch included at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit tea plantations and the Blue Temple (Wat Rong Suea Ten), a striking contemporary work in intense blues with a great white Buddha.
- 5
Chiang Rai – Chiang Mai
Begin with a boat ride along the Maekok River in a traditional launch to a Karen ethnic village. Continue by road to Chiang Mai, stopping at the iconic White Temple (Wat Rong Khun), famed for its contemporary design and spiritual symbolism. Lunch included en route. In the afternoon, visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, one of Thailand's most important temples, crowning a mountain with sweeping views of Chiang Mai.
- 6
Chiang Mai
Head into the jungle to an elephant camp for a demonstration of these majestic animals' strength and intelligence, followed by an elephant-back safari across the river and through the forest. Hotel check-in is generally between 2:00 and 3:00 PM and check-out between 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM; early check-in and late check-out cannot be guaranteed. Bed type (double or twin) is subject to availability and confirmed at check-in. For stays during Songkran (April), Loy Krathong (November), Christmas and New Year, and Chinese New Year, ask about room supplements, minimum stays and mandatory gala dinners. For domestic flights, contact us — if booked on your own they must match the group's schedule; a different airline or time carries a supplement equal to an extra transfer. Consult your doctor about recommended vaccinations for travel in Asia (typhoid, tetanus, hepatitis A and B are commonly advised).
